Joan Zamora is a mixed media artist who moved to the United States from Mexico at the age of eight. She earned a bachelor’s degree from San Francisco State University, with an emphasis in painting and photography. Joan Zamora's art has appeared in the television show Insecure (season 4, episode 8) and the film The American Society of Magical Negroes (2024). One of her Day of the Dead altars was featured in a web episode of PBS's Craft in America. She is also a teaching artist with Self Help Graphics & Art’s Barrio Mobile Art Studio. Joan currently works as an art teacher in South Los Angeles, California. Since 2022, she has enjoyed teaching visual arts at arts-X-press every summer. After leaving arts-X-press, “I want my students to be confident enough to make and share their art with everyone.”
