Pacific Symphony Santiago Strings (PSSS), Pacific Symphony Youth Concert Band (PSYCD), Pacific Symphony Youth Wind Ensemble (PSYWE) and Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra (PSYO) perform in the Renêe and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall. Admission is free, but tickets are required.

PSYO: Force of Destiny

November 14, 2022

Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra, led by Assistant Conductor and PSYO Music Director Dr. Jacob Sustaita, opens their 2022-23 season with the overture to Verdi's late opera, The Force of Destiny. Of particular note is the repetition of three notes that begin the overture, termed the “fate” motif. The concert continues with another piece from the world of Italian opera, the lush and beautiful Intermezzo to Mascagni's Cavalleria rusticana. After intermission, the talented young musicians perform Mahler's Symphony No. 1, the mighty "Titan."

PSSS: New Horizons

The talented young musicians of Pacific Symphony Santiago Strings, under the direction of their new music director, Dr. Johanna Gamboa-Kroesen, open the season with the rousing Overture to Glinka's opera, Ruslan and Ludmilla, followed by string arrangements of four art songs by Franz Schubert. The program closes with music by two contemporary composers: The Horizon by Yukiko Nishimura and Red Rhythmico by Kirt Mosier.
