QIGANG CHEN: Er Huang, for Piano and Orchestra
RACHMANINOFF: Symphonic Dances

Conductor Long Yu, “the most powerful figure in China’s classical music scene” (The New York Times), bridges Eastern and Western musical worlds. Pianist Serena Wang performs Qigang Chen’s shimmering Er Huang, music inspired by childhood memory that swells to passionate heights and dissolves into a meditative finale. Rachmaninoff’s magnificent final work—written in exile—is a bittersweet dance of yearning and unforgettable melody.

Preview Talk at 7 p.m. with KUSC midday host Alan Chapman.
