Evan Nicholson
Cello
After a brief stint on violin, Evan Nicholson began studying cello at the age of four in Atlanta, Georgia. His primary teachers have been Pamela Devenport, Avi Friedlander, Martin Gueorguiev, Wendy Warner, Daniel Laufer, Norman Fischer, and Valentin Radutiu.
As the result of young artist competitions, Nicholson performed the first movement of the Dvorak Cello Concerto with the Emory Youth Symphony Orchestra and Columbus State Symphony Orchestra and the Shostakovich Concerto with the Northwest Florida Symphony.
In recent summers Nicholson has studied at the Chautauqua Institute and served as a fellow at the Madeline Island Chamber Music Festival and Tanglewood.
A passionate chamber musician, Nicholson was a finalist at the Chesapeake Chamber Music Competition with the Brompton Quartet. He has played in masterclasses for Brooklyn Rider, Dover Quartet, Jerusalem Quartet, and the Escher Quartet.
When he is not behind the cello, Nicholson is a saltwater fishing enthusiast.
Nicholson received his Bachelor of Music degree from The Shepherd School of Music at Rice University.
