About Newport Beach Central Library
After years of advocacy, fundraising and support by Newport Beach residents, the Central Library was opened on July 10, 1994. The 54,000 square-foot state-of-the-art facility was designed by the team of Simon Martin-Vegue Winkelstein Moris, San Francisco, in association with James L. Pirdy, Newport Beach at a cost of $8.5 million. In May 2013, the public celebrated a library expansion of 17,000 square feet which connected the Library to the new Newport Beach Civic Center and Park, and added study space and Media Lab, bringing total space in the Central Library to 71,000 square feet.
