Pacific Symphony invites you to dust off your bell-bottoms (or head to the local vintage shop!) and get your groove on at “Disco Fever—Let's Dance!” August 23 at the Great Park Live in Irvine. As part of the Symphony’s vibrant SummerFest 2025 lineup, this high-energy concert harkens back to the 1970s for a night filled with iconic disco anthems, dazzling vocals, and an unforgettable onstage audience dance-off.
Led by Principal Pops Conductor Enrico Lopez-Yañez, the concert features powerhouse vocalists Maiya Sykes and Ty Taylor, who perform timeless disco classics such as “We Are Family,” “Stayin’ Alive,” “I Will Survive” and “The Hustle.” With the power of a full symphony orchestra, this exciting, family-friendly event promises to capture the infectious energy of the disco era. The fun culminates in an opportunity for audience members to shake their groove thing onstage alongside the evening’s performers.
“My father was a huge fan of music from the ‘70s, so this show represents the soundtrack of my childhood—and it still gets me dancing every time. In this concert we pay tribute to the greatest icons of that decade from The Bee Gees, Donna Summer, and Gloria Gaynor, to Kool and the Gang, KC and the Sunshine Band and many more,” said Lopez-Yañez. “From an onstage dance competition to mind-blowing vocal performances, this concert is all about celebrating and having a fun time—getting people up on their feet, singing along to the hits they love, and soaking in the iconic sound of the ‘70s enhanced by the power of a full symphony orchestra.”
Taking center stage for the non-stop dance party are two electrifying vocal talents with resumes that span pop, rock, film, and Broadway. Classically trained vocalist, producer and vocal arranger, Maiya Sykes has provided back-up vocals for The Black Eyed Peas, Macy Gray, Fantasia, Joss Stone, Michael Buble, Leona Lewis and Rita Ora. She was a featured backup singer for Macy Gray in her live show for more than five years. She recently provided backgrounds and was featured in the Oscar award-winning film “La La Land.”
From New York to Hollywood, Ty (Tyrone) Taylor is a multi-faceted performer whose singing career began at age five and has taken him from Broadway to the big screen. He has performed as a backup singer for legends like Tina Turner and Celine Dion, fronted numerous original bands, and appeared in film and television. Taylor is best known as the lead singer of the critically acclaimed blues-rock band Vintage Trouble, which has released four albums and played more than 3,000 shows worldwide.
Whether you’re a seasoned disco dancer or ready to relive the glittering magic of the ’70s, Disco Fever—Let's Dance! is the perfect way to spend a summer night. Get ready to groove to the beats that defined a generation—and experience the disco era like never before.
