BEETHOVEN: Symphony No. 1
Beethoven's first symphony is indebted to his teacher Joseph Haydn, the father of the classical symphony. At the same time, it foreshadows Beethoven's future development of the genre, including the more independent use of wind instruments and the transformation of the third movement, traditionally a stately minuet, into what in his later symphonies would become the lively scherzo.
This performance is available for FREE streaming through August 13.
