Waldemar de Almeida
Since 1985, Waldemar de Almeida has been a part of Pacific Symphony's cello section. Originally from Brazil, he started playing the cello at age nine and also studied the piano. He later went to Switzerland to attend the Geneva Conservatory, then came to the States to study at Yale University with Professor Aldo Parisot. De Almeida has had positions playing with the Suisse Romande, Birmingham, Dallas, Auckland, Sao Paulo, Adelaid, and the San Diego Symphonies, often holding principal or assistant principal chairs in those orchestras. Upon moving to the Los Angeles area, De Almeida played in many local orchestras, and has been the principal cellist of the California Philharmonic Orchestra since 1997. In addition to performing, he enjoys teaching cello to advanced students.
