Girls Inc.
“Girls Inc. is so grateful for our relationship with Heartstrings that allows us to introduce our girls to music in such a tangible way. Our girls can already be heard talking amongst themselves about what type of musician they would like to be when they grow up! Thank you Heartstrings for helping us to inspire our Girls Inc. girls!”
-Girls Inc.
Girls Incorporated was created to give girls the skills and knowledge they need to believe in themselves, become self-sufficient women and contribute to the world around them. With 146 years nationally and 56 years of experience in Orange County, Girls Inc. understands the girls and the challenges they face. Programs focus on targeting the “whole girl” with components that include: after-school tutoring, economic literacy, health, science, math, technology, media literacy, leadership, college preparation and career planning. Each program is designed to equip Girls Inc. members with the skills they need to succeed in school and in life.
In 2011, close to 4,000 girls, ages 4 ½ to 18, participated in programs at the Girls Inc. center in Costa Mesa and 53 outreach locations throughout Orange County. Locations include elementary, junior high and high schools, community centers, local shelters and the juvenile justice system. Girls Inc. takes programs to the girls who need them the most.
As the oldest girl-centered organization in the U.S., Girls Inc. has been transforming girls’ views of themselves and their opportunities for generations. Girls Inc. is much more than an after-school and summer program – it is the place to find people to help girls succeed. For more information about Girls Inc., please visit girlsinc.org.
