Based on a 1787 work by Goethe, the “Egmont” Overture pleased even the playwright, who remarked that the composer had expressed his themes of liberty and heroism with “a remarkable genius.” Then, the world-premiere performance of Richard Danielpour’s Piano Concerto, featuring celebrated pianist Jeffrey Biegel, will be a highlight of the season. Finally, Berlioz’ “Symphonie fantastique” and its musically enchanting depictions of human responses to romantic love.
