Virtuoso oboe playing is spotlighted in a superb orchestral suite paying homage to Ravel’s comrades who died in World War I. Then, Grammy Award-winning guitarist Sharon Isbin adds lightness and flamboyance to the program with the irresistible dance rhythms of Rodrigo’s “Fantasy for a Gentleman.” Finally, the most famous four notes in music: the “da-da-da-dum” opening of Beethoven’s exceptional Symphony No. 5.
