The Iranian New Year — marking the arrival of spring — has been celebrated since ancient times. This year, join your neighbors in a program of
festive Persian music featuring the Shams Ensemble. Then, celebrate a world premiere: Richard Danielpour's oratorio "Toward a Season of Peace" was commissioned by Pacific Symphony as part of this year's American Composers Festival.

DANIELPOUR: Toward a Season of Peace (world premiere)
A special festival celebrating the music of Persian-Americans is the impetus for a new work by Richard Danielpour, whose own Persian ancestry served as
inspiration for his oratorio "Toward a Season of Peace." The Shams Ensemble joins the Symphony to perform traditional Persian music.

Shams Ensemble
The Shams Ensemble draws its inspiration from traditional Kurdish, Sufi and classical Iranian music. The group creates its mesmerizing music with the help of the tanbour (the Kurdish lute), daf (frame drum) and percussion instruments.
